October 3rd, 2017

Cathlin Russell | Senior Bid Consultant | CP APMP

What led you to tender/proposal writing and how has your background helped you?

Nine years ago I took up the role of a Bid Coordinator quite by chance. I quickly realised that I enjoyed tenders and that I really wanted to focus on writing them and articulating winning messages and strategies, and I eagerly joined BidWrite. My previous work experience in business consulting, marketing and business development was diverse and has influenced my interest in consulting across many different types of industries. It’s fantastic to be able to work on so many different types of tenders and with so many great bid teams.

What have been some of your proudest moments in your career?

It is very rewarding when a winning tender makes a huge difference to a company. It’s great to see a company physically expand in size, employ new people and win new accounts due to that one tender award that changed their business.

What do you enjoy most about tendering/proposal writing?

Tendering can be very rewarding – it is great to see the results of your hard work and effort when the bid is finished and is submitted. And of course, winning the tender makes it even more satisfying.

What is the biggest challenge in writing tenders?

Getting people to participate in the bid process is always challenging – most people are very busy and I’m sure they would rather hide under their desk than contribute to the bid process. I enjoy showing them that tenders don’t have to be difficult, and that their efforts are important to winning the bid.

What do you love most about being part of the team at BidWrite?

We are always learning, challenging ourselves to do better tenders. The team camaraderie here is good, and we share a lot of laughs.

What is the one thing you wish every bid manager knew about?

Do the Executive Summary in the beginning of the bid process, not at the end.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Where is your favourite place to be?

If you could do another job just for a day, what would it be?

Do you have a favourite quote or motto?

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela

Do you have any unique interests or skills that you would like to share?
